Bishop

2.1.1790 hear Bishop at Holcroft's / 7.7.1791 again. Given Holcroft's many musical guests and the phrase 'hear Bishop' this may have been Henry Bishop, dancing master and violinist (see below) rather than listening to a bishop's sermon as suggested by the event tag (although Godwin earlier noted 'see bishop Newton' and 'hear bishop Horsley' both times he used a small b). Aickin the actor and Otley who was often at Holcroft's musical gatherings were perhaps less likely to go hear a sermon - and the second 'hear Bishop' was with Clementi, Shield & Bossy, all musicians. There was also a Bishop 17.12.1793 visiting Muir & Reid on the hulks at Woolwich /11.10.1795 adv at Holcroft's (the violinist?) / 28.8.1798 meet Fuseli & Bishop / 20.2.1801 meet Bishop / 5.9.1801 again / 12.10.1811 Bishops at Collier's / 8.9.1815 S(arah) E(lwes) & Bishop dine / 26.1.1826 at Lady Caroline Lamb's / 29.1.1826 again. Mrs Bishop and E Bishop were all Mary Wollstonecraft's sister Eliza and so may have been some of the Bishops listed above. A Samuel Bishop signed the declaration of Friends to Liberty of Press 1792
