No 6 Castle St East Land Tax 1797-1798 Mary Morgan / Sun Fire 1797 Mary Morgan 6 Castle St spinster

At a trial on 16.4.1795 (oldbaileyonline) Isabella Hawley was a witness who said she had been servant to Mrs Morgan of Castle St, Oxford Market for 3 or 4 months till last January. It concerned a robbery of coins and jewels worth several thousand pounds for which a reward of £1000 had been offered and the defense suggested that Hawley was making up her very damning evidence to get the reward, and also asked questions about her employer to which Hawley replied Mrs Morgan was a married woman with no business whose husband didn't live with her. The items were stolen from 71 Castle Street, nearly opposite No 6. The prisoners were acquitted. Mrs Morgan could well have been the Mary Morgan above when she was a tenant of Catherine Brown. On 4.4.1794 John Rudd had been committed for bastardy on the oath of Isabella Hawley. Henry son of John Rudd and Isabella Hawley from the workhouse was born 26.2.1794 and baptised 9.3.1794 St Marylebone.
