According to the plaque outside the Kings Arms 23 Poland St  Henry Hurle founded the Ancient Order of Druids there on 29.11.1781. I don't know of any contemporary record of this, it probably rests on a statement in a Druid magazine some years later but perhaps within living memory of the event.
