Webb, Francis

In Godwin's 1796 list for 1773 F Webb

Francis Webb DNB 1735-1815. General Baptist minister and a steadfast radical whig, the DNB article states he was Deputy Searcher at Gravesend 1766 -77. In Godwin's autobiographical notes (on microfilm Duke MF 75 Bodleian Library) directly after his examination by Stafford, an Arian, he wrote "F Webb - T Pade - Hulls", and a bit later "Disputed with mrs Hull at cards - rewrite her poem".  Richard Hull (will PCC 1780 of Harrow on the Hill, Middlesex) was the brother of Godwin's mother Ann. Webb, Hammersmith

Webbs Hammersmith 25.12.1794 at Foulkes'.

There were plenty of Webbs in Hammersmith, including chairmakers John of Fulham died 1795, his sister Martha and nephew Henry of the Creek, Hammersmith, and tobacco pipe maker Edward Webb of Shepherds Bush, and a Thomas Webb gentleman who died 1803 and his wife Mary. Why were they at Foulkes' on Christmas day?

Nathaniel Webb Esq of St James (see his younger brother Webb, Willis) married Eden Hoare, minor, with the consent of Cecilia Hoare, widow at St George Hanover Square on 20.11.1788. Webb, Willis

7.4.1788 &c. Willis John Webb was baptised at St James Piccadilly in 1770 son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth. His older brother Nathaniel was baptised in 1760 at St Marylebone. His parents married at St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol on 1758. His father was MP for Taunton 1768-75 and Ilchester 1775-80 and supported North, never spoke in the house, lived at Savile Row and in Montserrat, West Indies and died at Bath in 1786 (History of Parliament). Willis was admitted at St John's College Cambridge and at Lincolns Inn in 1788, got his BA in 1792 and was called to the bar in 1795 (Alum Cantab). He…

David Webster was a weaver of Leslie, Fife whose letter to Godwin dated 7.12.1801 is in Bodleian Abinger c7 f78-9 who wrote a pamphlet "The God of the Jews characterised from his own Writings" which was sent to Godwin by a Mr Jameson portrait painter

Of the daughters still alive in 1798 of Josiah Wedgwood DNB 1730-1795, Susannah 1765-1817 had married Robert Waring Darwin on 18.4.1796 at St Marylebone. (They were the parents of Charles Darwin DNB 1809-1882). Sarah Wedgwood 1734-1815 widow of Josiah Wedgwood DNB d.1795. The S Wedgwood of 1813 was perhaps more likely her unmarried daughter Sarah (see Wedgwood, Catherine). Mrs Robert Darwin was Mrs Wedgwood's daughter so the three sisters and their mother were probably at dinner

Minister of German chapel on Ludgate Hill, wrote 'A View of Great Britain' and a German Grammar, both published by Robinson in 1790/1. Leeds Archives letter to Rd How Aspley 1792 (not seen)
