                    28.3.1829 Mrs Mitchell at Masqueriers in Brighton

John James Masquerier (DNB 1778-1855) married in 1812 Rachel widow of Rober Eden Scott and daughter of Duncan Forbes-Mitchell. The Mitchells could well have been the family of one of her married brothers then living, either John Forbes-Mitchell born 1784, married Ann Powell in 1809, had 6 children and died  9.7.1822, or Henry David Forbes-Mitchell born 1790, married Margaret Fraser in 1816 and had several children by her by 1822. He died in 1869

Jackson's Oxford Journal 17.5.1828 University of London the council appointed Ludwig von Muhlenfels, Professor of the German and Northern languages and literature. HCR diary 3.6.1818 at British Gallery with Mrs Smith, the futre Mrs Aders "Mrs S made me attentive to the brilliant lights of Hobbema and made me half a convert to her preference of Cuyp over Claude"

A longish passage on how the future Mrs Aders influenced Robinson's taste in art, but compare his visit the previous month to the gallery with Munro, who seems to have influenced him in much the same direction. Probably Hugh Andrew Johnstone Munro (DNB 1797-1864)

Probably Samuel Naylor attorney of Great Newport Street from 1770 and of Hogs Lane Hammersmith, buried 12.2.1799 at Baptist Chapel, Hammersmith age 53 (will PCC 1799 dated 7.9.1793 wits Thomas & Ellen Maclean). His wife Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Maclean, sons Samuel and Thomas (born 1776 Dr Williams' registers) still at Newport St in 1841 census, son Samuel unmarried at Hammersmith with sister Elizabeth 1851 census

Passavant

HCR diary 15.4.1838 at Aders' "He, I should say they are annoyed at the difficulty in disposing of any of the pictures and now propose writing to Passavant at Frankfurt"

See Marquardt II p520 and n37. Johann David Passavant 1787-1861 art historian, saw Aders' collection in London in 1831 and described it in his book Kunstreise durch England und Belgien (1833). Not to be confused with the doctor Johann Karl Passavant (1790-1857) his brother?  whom Robinson met in Germany in 1829 (Marquardt II p 284 and n14)


Pate, Miss

HCR DIARY 10.4.1842 Miss Pate "related to me a strange story of Basil Montagu" (shorthand passage) "Miss P: is the godmother of his son Frederick"

This was possibly Eliza Lloyd Pate daughter of John Pate solicitor of Bury St Edmunds and his wife Susanna who was bapt 5.2.1778 at St Mary's Bury, died at Bury 23.4.1857. Bury & Norwich Post 11.11.1829 & 28.4.1857. Her will PCC 1857 spinster mentioned a godson but not Frederick Montagu
