Anthony Brough of White Hart Court, Bishopsgate St proposed Socy for Const Info 5.11.1782 by Thomas Hinton Burley Oldfield 2nded Joseph Brown. India, Russia & China merchant, managing shipowner and shipbuilder, address sometimes Salvador House, Bishopsgate St without. Prosecuted in 1789 for procuring sailors to serve in Russian ships without royal licence. His book on Necessity of Lowering Freight on East India Ships published 1786 and his View of the Trade between Great Britain & Russia published 1789 both by George Robinson (New Catalogue of Living English Authors 1799 called him a "visionary theorist" - not meant as a compliment).  Later lived at Clapham where he was a member of Christian Knowledge societies 1785 and  1787.  AB of Clapham = 24.6.1790 at Fulham Susanna Avery of Hammersmith, younger dau of Wm Avery currier of St Martin i t Fields (will PCC 1772) and his wife Susanna nee Metcalf. In 1797 he subscribed with other London merchants (but not as far as I could see with any other SCI members) to suppressing the mutiny at the Nore. In 1820 he subscribed to relieve distress of irish poor and in 1826 of Spitalfields silk weavers. Later lived in Russell Square and then SunFire 1828 AB esq 37 Portland Place. His will PCC 1840 merchant of St Marylebone, and his widow's will PCC 1841 left property to their cousins and mentioned no children
