Dickinson 21.10.1802 at Nicholson's / 26.8.1804 Dickenson at Horne Tooke's
When William Nicholson was in Debtor's Prison in 1807 (see Nat Arch PRIS1/23) the principal creditor was a Robert Dickinson, for £996, next was George Nicholas Ll.D. headmaster of Ealing school (will PCC 1829) for £324 at first and a further £634 added later, and the other 20 or so creditors for less than £1000 between them, including James Sadler jr for £30. It's possible that some creditors added their claims at the request of the debtor. Godwin had supped at Nicholson's with Sadler on 14.1.1800. There were a number of Robert Dickenson / Dickinsons who this could have been. Most likely seems Robert Dickinson medicine vendor of Long Acre who voted Horne Tooke 1796, Fox & Gardner 1802, and Sheridan 1806. He was son-in-law to Thomas Vincent who had been the successor to Dr Gowland in selling Gowland's Lotion (for pimples and scurvy) and in 1798 bottles of the lotion were signed T Vincent and R Dickenson, but by 1805 Vincent's widow, and by then Mrs Tyler, was selling her version of the lotion in the name M E Vincent in competition with Dickinson (Bury & Norwich Post 30.10.1805). See John Gowland DNB d.1776. Other possibles were Rev R Dickinson 13 hanover St Walworth (Holden's 1811) maybe the same as Rev Robert Dickinson rector of Headley Herts will PCC 1848. Rivers, J & R Dickinson were listed in Boyle's City Guide 1798 at 40 St John St and R Dickinson conveyancer was at 13 Paper Bldgs (Boyle's 1800). Robert Dickinson gent of Wombourn Staffs will PCC 1828. The two entries above had no initial so could have been a wide range of people with this common surname
