GODWIN DIARY 30.3.1795 (female) Howard at Barbaulds with (female) Barwell, Clarke & Smith / 27.5.1795 miss Howard at Barbaulds / 1.1.1796 dr Howard at John King's // then no more Howards till 1812

the two female Howard entries at Barbaulds, see A L Barbauld by McCarthy (2008) page639 note58. Miss Howard of Ormond St asked Alexander Geddes (letter in Nat Lib Scotland) which of her friends "would be most agreeable" to Barbaulds. Boyle's up to 1798 has Mrs Howard 53 Gt Ormond St & Pinner Middlesex. Mrs Howard of Pinner is mentioned in Memorials of Thomas Brand Hollis. Will PCC 1807 Alice Howard spinster of Pinner gives no clue of these connections and seems part of a family of Pinner farmers (PCC 1760 John H farmer 1773 George H cordwainer, both of Pinner). Miss Charlotte Rebecca Howard of York Place, Marylebone is named in deeds of a cottage at Pinner 1810 & 1841 (Ldn Met Arch ACC/0076/1963), her will PCC 1855. The other ladies at Barbaulds on 30.3.1795, Barwell & Clarke were together twice at miss Williams' in 1788, Smith may be Charlotte Smith.
