Maria Hughes 1761-1812 Irish actress in Joseph George Holman 1764-1817 (Highfill, Burnim & Langhans). She had children by Holman and claimed to be his wife. According to Leslie Hale, John Philpot Curran pp131 & 138 she was Curran's mistress or was named by the defence in the case Curran brought against Rev Sandys for adultery with Sarah Curran in 1795. She married John Scott-Waring DNB 1747-1819 in 1796 and their children John Thurlow born 14.12.1796 and Laura Augusta Hastings born 17.2.1798 were baptised at St James Piccadilly on 24.3.1798. She was found dead at the foot of her stairs after the Scott-Warings entertained the Prince Regent in 1812. See also The Cap by Peter Pindar notes on pp17-8
