Iliff (at Philomaths?) 3.10.1794 / Hubbard's 17.1.1795 / Powel's 17.3.1795 / 9.2.1796 meets / 12.2.1796 calls.

Edward Henry Iliff was baptised 18.4.1766 at St Clement Danes son of Thomas Iliff of Lincoln College, Oxford, curate of St Clement Danes, librarian of Westminster Abbey, and his wife Frances. Thomas Iliff of St Clement Danes = Mancetter, Warwicks 26.10.1763 Frances Needham otp by lic wits Francesca Stratford, Susanna Waldron. Thomas Iliff's will was proved 1803 formerly of Devereux Court, Strand and late of Dean's Yard, Westminster and mentioned his wife Frances, his sisters Ann (deceased), Sarah (PCC 1828) and Susannah (PCC 1822), his sons Edward Henry, Thomas (PCC 1836) and Charles, and his daughters Susannah (wife of John Morgan of Charlotte St Bloomsbury) and Frances. Edward Henry was an East India Company clerk 1783-4 and then became an actor (see Highfill, Burnim & Langhans) and married the actress Maria Palmer (8.11.1785 at Ecclesfield, Yorks). His works included A Summary of the Duties of Citizenship (1795) Angels (1796) & A Tear of Sympathy (1796). He was in the King's Bench prison along with a Richard Iliff (perhaps his younger brother bapt from 2.2.1800 to 20.4.1800 at the suit of Thomas Beck, Walter Thompson & Sarah Barley. (A Stainsby Iliff was in the Kings Bench prison from 30.8.1800 to 12.8.1801 at the suit of William Caldwell). Edward Henry Iliff was still alive on 10.8.1822 as he then took administration of his father's will, his mother Frances having died and his brother Charles having died in her lifetime..Elizabeth Iliffe (or Ilive) the mistress of George Wyndham (DNB 1751-1837) Earl of Egremont, who later married him, was said to have been the daughter of a Westminster schoolmaster, but although the Rev Thomas Iliffe baptised a daughter Elizabeth in 1776 she would have been only eleven when Wyndham's first child by his mistress was born in 1787, and Iliffe's daughter Frances baptised in 1768 was mentioned in his will dated 1803 as Frances Iliffe. An Ancestry user-submitted tree suggests Egremont's mistress was an Elizabeth Ayliffe one of the children of a Frances Hamilton (haven't checked this).
