Samuel Lister attorney of 3 New Inn, Law List 1800. The first entry above is coded in GD website to Dr William Lister but the address and the recurrence of the same guests in the second entry make it clear that the first entry was Samuel Lister. Most of his guests were probably also attorneys, Joshua Lucock Wilkinson and Richard Wordsworth were partners, see their entries and those for Hammond & Lawson. The 1798 theatre entry could have been either Samuel or William, no Lister appeared at the theatre anywhere else in Godwin's diary, and Dr William Lister didn't appear in the diary between June 1797 and 1810, and then each time at his relation J Hollis's. Samuel Lister was not a brother of William, maybe a cousin or unrelated. He may have been the Samuel Lister attorney of Little Chelsea in Bailey's 1784, the Samuel Lister attorney of Massingham, nr Bradford Yorks 1787 and/or the Samuel Lister of Craven Hill, Bayswater, Middx whose will PCC 1809 mentioned his wife Margaret and spoke of great distress and calumnies against him. Samuel lister attorney of Whitehall voted Paull 1806. A Samuel Lister was articled 1.5.1786 to Joseph Dobson of Pudsey, Yorks (deed executed by Sarah Lister) and transferred 3.2.1790 to Richard Gleadhill of Furnivals Inn. A Samuel Lister was articled 25.6.1787 to Pochin Lister of Kidderminster Worcs. A Samuel Lister of 15 Cliffords Inn witnessed documents 1797 and 1798 (London Lives)
