2.7.1796 squire to Scole

The Scole Inn was a coaching inn halfway between Ipswich and Norwich. squire is odd for not having a capital letter, if it was intended as a verb, the meaning is obscure. If a proper name it could have referred to Charles Squire, gentlemanĀ of Ipswich (will PCC 1817), Edmund Squire, liquor merchant of Bury (will PCC 1835), or Edward Squire, merchant of Norwich, or the name of a local carrier, though not found in directories.
