The will PCC 27.11.1787 of Joseph Squire merchant of Plymouth dated 14.11.1786 mentioned his late wife Ann Jago, his children Richard Jago, John Champion, Ann, Charles Robert, Elizabeth, Clarissa, Susan Emily, Gertude Mary & Joseph Cornelius, and made his brother Thomas and his brother in law Joseph Spurrell (QV*) executors. Thomas Squire appr 19.12.1759 for 7 yrs premium £60 to M A Kingdom mercer of Plymouth. Thomas Squire mercer = Plymouth St Andrew 28.9.1766 Margaret James otp sp by lic, wits Saml James, Adam Gordon. Children of Thomas & Margaret Squire bapt West Alvington 21.10.1770 Mary Champion Squire (of Plymouth), bapt Plymouth St Andrew Thomas 19.11.1771, Samuel James 12.7.1775, Elizabeth 23.1.1777, Henry 15.3.1782 (born 17.9.1778). A Thomas Squire bought lease 1785 of Devonshire Inn, Plympton St Mary (West Devon Record Office 1724/17 a & b - not seen) but this was more likely Thomas Squire yeoman of Plympton St Mary will PCC 1808. Samuel James son of Thomas Squire mercer of Plymouth articled 25.11.1790 to Thomas Mudge attorney, his will PCC 5.6.1804 dated 26.4.1803, didn't mention father.
