The first two entries were probably not Withers of Holt but all subsequent entries probably were. The 1807 entries may have referred to William Withers attorney, officer to Sheriff of Middlesex, 5 Palgrave-pl Temple-bar, also of Tufton-st Westminster and Hanger Hill, Ealing (SunFire 1808 and Holdens 1811 directory), his will PCC 24.1.1837, will of his father William PCC 3.3.1799. He married Mary Bowler at Harrow 20.10.1801, an interesting case of his father-in-law Bowler at Old Bailey 1809 for attempted murder. Also possibles were John Withers notary Royal Exchange (Holdens 1811), his will PCC 19.11.1831, and Robert Withers grocer of 4 Clarendon-sq Somers-town (Holdens 1811 and SunFire 1817).

William Withers will PCC 13.3.1848 gent of Church-house, Holt, Norfolk mentioned wife Elizabeth (née Woodcock). He was articled to William Brereton of Holt 1780. After his mother's death in 1809 Godwin took administration of some of his family's effects in 1810, perhaps at the suggestion of William Withers as he appears from the diary to have called on Godwin first.
