A common name with few entries in Godwin's diary. The 1809 and 1810 entries were probably one person, but the 1802 and 1806 entries could easily have been different people (or not). At Moore's in 1802 with Moore's friend Woolriche who was a surgeon, so maybe a surgeon or maybe an Irish connection. See Hughes, Maria for connection of Curran and Waring. The will PCC 1803 of Hon Charles Carpenter brother of George 2nd Earl Tyrconnel and father of the next Earl, dated 1788, mentioned his son Charles surgeon of Walton on Thames who is not mentioned in Peerages so presumably died between 1788 and 1805 when the 2nd Earl died. James Carpenter DNB 1760-1845 naval officer and Lant Carpenter DNB 1780-1840 Unitarian minister are both outside possibilities. Samuel Carpenter of 5 Inner Temple Lane, special pleader was in the Law List of 1800 and Charles Carpenter of 5 New Inn, attorney in that of 1808. The three calls in 1809/10 could have easily been on a printer, an attorney, a medical man or a moneylender. Edward Twine Carpenter and his partner William Carpenter were printers, booksellers and publishers with addresses in Fetter Lane and Fleet St from 1775 to 1821 and see the Book Trades Index (bbti.bham.ac.uk) for others of the surname
