18.1.1828 at Cambridge called on Miss Lane visiting at Tyrwhitt's, Mr & Miss Eaton there
10.11.1843 "old Eaton the banker is dead and Miss L: after devoting 30 years of her life to the education of his daughter is left without any provision whatever - The heir will do nothing for her - The daughter, her pupil, is married and has not the means - A younger son abroad will do something it is supposed -All this is anticipation, for Miss L said nothing on the subject"
5.12.1845 "chat with Miss Lane. She told me of her sad state being left nearly unprovided for by the Eaton family with whom she lived so lomng. The son MP for Cambridge is out of his mind and her pupil, warmly attached to her, is married to a selfish man and cannot do what she wishes for her"
Maria Louisa Eaton married at St James Piccadilly on 8.9.1840 John Rae Reid, MP for Dover 1830-1831 and 1832-1847, Governor of Bank of England 1839-40. His firm Reid, Irving & Co failed in 1847 and he died in 1867. In the 1841 census at his house Ewell Grove, Surrey was Miss Lane age 35. See my entries for Lane, Miss and Tyrwhitt. Richard Eaton of Stetchworth, Cambs will PCC 1843. His eldest son Richard Jefferson Eaton born 4.4.1806 was MP for Cambridgeshire 1835-1847. He had gone to Malta for his health and his death was wrongly reported from there in November 1846. Morning Post 31.7.1847 said he was suffering from a physical ailment. His siblings were Christopher Edward born 16.5.1807, Henry Charles born 17.9.1808, Maria Louisa born 14.10.1810, John William born 6.8.1814, Ellinor Juliet born 2.2.1816, George Granville born 2.3.1817.
