write to E Goodford 23.1.1802 / 7.4.1814 call on Place & Bridger / 13.9.1814 Bridger calls
I have a tentative suggestion as to this person's identity. The will of John Old Goodford of Yeovil PCC 1787 mentioned his wife Maria and his daughters Maria, Elizabeth, Harriot and Mary Ann. The will PCC 1828 dated 14.1.1828 of Elizabeth Bridger formerly Goodford of Romford but late of Windsor, wife of Lt Col James Paul Bridger, mentioned her mother Maria Goodfrod, her brother John Goodford of Clifton Cantelo and his wife Charlotte, her aunt Mrs Harbin, her friend John Frederick Pinney of Somerton, and her cousins Mary Ann wife of John Phelips, Caroline wife of Charles Phelips, and Elizabeth wife of Major Thomas Potter Miller. Her brother can be found in Charles Old Goodford DNB 1812-1884 headmaster as his father John Goodford of Yeovil died 1835 whose wife was Charlotte dau of Montague Cholmeley (see Cholmeley). The will of her sister Maria Goodford spinster PCC 1816 and dated Sept 1812 mentioned her sister Elizabeth Bridger, but I haven't found Elizabeth's marriage so cannot be sure she was still a spinster in 1802. The will of her mother Maria PCC 1847 mentioned her sister Mrs Rhoda Harbin. James Paul Bridger son of Colville of Old Shoreham, Sussex was admitted to Magdalen Hall Oxford in 1795 age 19, became a Lieutenant in 1809, served as a Major in the 12th Light Dragoons in the peninsula under Wellington, and died at Brighton in 1841. Several visitors to the Godwins who seem to have been connections of Mary Jane Godwin (see Napier, miss Walsh, Pester, Clement Poole) came from the Yeovil area. There were also Chancery cases involving Goodfords 1799-1805 which I haven't consulted ( National Archives C12/257/40, C13/499/1&5). The later Bridger entries above I've included because they might be connected
