Loveridge 22.9.1799 at Fell's with Oldfield
Loveridge was a friend of Thomas Hinton Burley Oldfield DNB 1755-1821 (see Sheffield Archives WWM/F/82/10 Jane Osbaldeston to Lord Fitzwilliam). Mrs Jane Osbaldeston, the mother of the sporting squire George Osbaldeston DNB 1786-1866, had ambitions for him as an MP and came into conflict with Oldfield who was acting as an election agent for Fitzwilliam at East Retford in 1812. Loveridge met her on Oldfield's behalf and Mrs Osbaldeston wrote that he was an attorney who had been struck off the list, who was notorious in the Alchester business. (I haven't discovered what that was - in History of Parliament a John Loveridge attorney is mentioned along with Thomas Sermon as supporting a charter to extend the franchise at Maldon, Essex in 1802). There was a William Loveridge attorney of Angel Court Throgmorton St 1777, of Austin Friars 1787-1794, of Pratt St Lambeth 1800, and of Hercules Buildings Lambeth in 1802 and 1808. In 1811 he no longer appeared in the list of attornies but was listed in Holden's Directory as a private resident of Hercules Buildings. Some of Oldfield's letters to Fitzwilliam were addressed from Hercules Buildings. William Loveridge of Austin Friars was a witness in a divorce case in 1787 when his age was given as 41 years. William Loveridge married Ann Harrison at St Andrews Holborn on 24.7.1773 and according to his will PCC 1833 she brought him some fortune. Their son John Harrison Loveridge was baptised at Holborn 27.4.1774. William Loveridge of Austin Friars articled his son John Harrison Loveridge on 5.1.1789, John Loveridge was an attorney 1796-1798 at 36 Carey St. A John Loveridge was in the Kings Bench prison from 30.4.1798 to 28.7.1798 at the suit of William Stephens. In 1822 John Harrison Loveridge was at 12 Charlotte St Bloomsbury and in the attornies' list, his will PCC 1830 dated 17.9.1821 mentioned his sisters Ann & Elizabeth Loveridge and his brother Harry Loveridge. Ann Loveridge married John Thomas 13.5.1825 and Elizabeth Loveridge married Benjamin Wise 22.1.1825 at Lambeth. Both daughters were mentioned in their father William's will dated 6.5.1831 and proved 9.2.1833.
