James Ridgway died 6.5.1838 and was buried 11.5.1838 at Chelsea burying ground of the Moravian Fetter Lane congregation by Nathaniel Rea. His date of birth was given in the burial register as 20.8.1755 at Matham in Longdindale, Cheshire. He left some thousands to each of five children. He married Caroline Carrington of Chelsea at St Mary Lambeth 11.11.1787, witnesses I Swainson and Jos Wm Carrington. He voted Hood & Wray 1784, Fox & Hood 1790, Gardner 1802, Sheridan & Hood 1806 and Burdett & Romilly 1818. Isaac Swainson was James Ridgway's bail in 1793 as well as witness at his wedding in 1787. Ridgway was discharged from Newgate May 1797 (Nat Arch HO 77/3&4). His son James Leech Ridgway 1799-1862 had an interest in the Globe newspaper and issued many pamphlets on Catholic emancipation and repeal of the Corn Laws.
