To deal with the last first, the two entries of 1835 referred to Joseph Snow secretary of the Literary Fund Society. His Minor Poems published 1828 was dedicated 1.5.1828 to Benjamin Aplin of Bodicot Grange Oxon, which identifies him as the son of Joseph Snow shag manufacturer of Banbury whose will PCC 1807 dated 14.12.1805 mentioned six daughters and a son Joseph and was witnessed by B Aplin & Oliver Aplin. The earlier Snows appeared in Godwin's dairy in two distinct periods 1804 to 1806 and 1818 to 1823, all 5 entries of the earlier period were in company with the Beresfords or the Rowans (mrs Beresford was Rowan's sister), and then from 1806 to 1809 there were 16 Beresford entries without any Snows. Apart from one call in 1812 Godwin didn't note Beresfords again until 27.12.1818, shortly after 3 Snow entries, two of which were on the steamboat back from Southend. Then there were 4 entries over the next seven weeks with Snows and Beresfords together, followed by 35 Snow entries across the next 4 years without Beresfords and 11 Beresford entries across the next 2 years without Snows. One explanation for this could have been that the Snows of the Southend steamboat and the later entries up to 1823 were a different family from the Snows associated with the Beresfords. Or it may simply have been that the Beresfords moved out to Addlestone in Surrey while Snow continued in London. I have looked at a number of different Snow families but come to no clear identification so I have detailed them in the work notes below. The entry Snow sups of 24.8.1819 was referred to by Godwin in his letter to his wife of 25.8.1819 (Bodleian Abinger c42 f2) which makes it clear that Mr Snow was bringing letters back and forth between Godwin in London and his wife in Southend. He was perhaps captain or crew of the Southend steamboat. In July 1821 Godwin referred to the Southend boat as Britannia
