Broome's will dated 2.1.1802, of Buxton Wilts, now at Bath, was proved 10.4.1805 and mentioned his wife Charlotte Anne, his son Ralph, his daughter Mariam Broome (natural child by an Indian woman of high rank born c.1781 see Hemlow, Burney's Letters & Journals 4, 123), and Amelia Margaret Weaver Broome now living at Exmouth (perhaps another natural child bapt St Marylebone 28.11.1802 Margt. Amelia of Ralph Broom & Mary Ann). According to Fanny Burney, Broome thought too highly of himself and Charlotte's marriage suffered from his fits of irrational rage. Charlotte's father Dr Charles Burney DNB 1726-1814 had opposed the marriage on the grounds that Broome was "a Democrat, even a Jacobin"
