BONNEY DIARY 11.11.1794 saw Clarkson (and Gurney) 12.11.1794 Clarksons (and Gurney) 13.11.1794 2 Clarksons
George Clarkson and Romaine William Clarkson attorneys. Their father John Clarkson was a chinaman of Market St, St James (Westminster Coroners Jury 28.3.1770 Market St, 1774 voted Mountmorres & Mahon SunFire 1777dealer in Glass China & Earthenware, voted 1780, 1784 Fox, coroners juries 1788, voted 1802 Fox & Graham, will PCC 16.11.1802 dated 6.5.1793 mentioned his two sons as above and his dau Harriet wife of James Hodson of Hatton Garden M.D., who died 16.4.1812 Morning Chronicle 18.4.1812) George born 26.9.1758 bapt 22.10,1758, Romaine William born 8.11.1762 bapt 12.12.1762 both at St James of John & Ann Clarkson. Harriet was born August 1764 and bapt 8.5.1788 St Andrew Holborn where she married James Hodson on 19.5.1788. Romaine William was articled 1778 to John Morgan and was listed in Law Lists from 1793 at 39 Essex St with his brother George, who had been there since 1788 (ad in World 27.11.1788). In his father's will dated 1793 Romaine's address was Southampton Buildings, he was insured SunFire 1796 at 16 Castle St Holborn and William his son with Sophia was bapt Holborn 17.11.1795 of Castle St. I found no record of his marriage. Their other children bapt at St Clement Danes were Harriet Ann 1800, Georgina 1802, George 1804, Romaine James 1808, and at Holborn 1819 Mary Ann Charlotte. Oracle 8.3.1798 and Morning Chronicle 4.5.1808 referred to Romaine's being secretary to the Whig Club. An ad in Morning Chronicle 15.4.1808 referred to a cause in Chancery Romaine Wm Clarkson vs. Earl of Scarborough & others. Morning Chronicle 10.2.1821 announced the death of his wife Sophia at Hammersmith, and the Standard of 22.6.1880 that of his dau Harriet Ann aged 80. I found less about George Clarkson, he was probably the gent of Clements Inn who voted Fox in 1780 and 1784, and certainly the attorney of Essex St who voted Fox in 1790, Fox & Gardner in 1802 and Sheridan & Paull in 1806. In 1814 the two brothers were defendants in a cause (Nat Arch C 13/2119/43). Romain insured (SunFire 1817) 27 Arundel St Strand, and there are references to him concerning Yorkshire title deeds 1819 & 1832 at Leeds Archives WYL 230/1242 & 1254. Not yet found when they died, attorneys rarely bothered to write wills. Romaine was presumably named in honour of William Romaine (DNB 1714-1795)
