Essex and Sheffields were both Godwin's neighbours in the Polygon, Somers Town. William Essex senior c.1740-1818 was apprenticed to a currier in Colchester in 1758. His son William c.1766-1836 was apprenticed in 1781 to Thomas Satchwell jeweller of the Goldsmith's Company as son of William Essex of Colchester, currier. William Essex senior and junior were insured together as curriers at 3 Parker St, Drury lane SunFire 1790. William Essex widow of St Pancras = Marylebone 30.4.1795 Susanna Pick otp sp lic sigs. William Essex bach of St Martin i t Fields = St Geo Han Sq 27.6.1799 Elizabeth Ellerton otp sp lic sigs wits Susana Essex, Sarah Pick. The will of William senior dated 30.11.1804 mentioned his wife, his brothers John & George, and his son William and was proved 21.1.1819. He was buried 21.12.1818 at St Giles i t Fields age 78 of the Polygon. The will of William junior proved PCC 19.9.1836 mentioned his wife Elizabeth, his sons William and Thomas, his cousin George Essex of Dorset Crescent, Hoxton, some of his wife's Ellerton relations, his late father's widow Susanna to whom he left the Polygon house, his eldest dau Elizabeth wife of Edward John Teale of Leeds, 2nd dau Ann wife of John Neal of Potton, Beds, surgeon, and 3rd dau Mary about to marry Richard Henry Slainbaut. William junior was buried St Pabcras 12.9.1836 age 70 of Upper Woburn Place. The Essex at Godwin's could have been William senior or junior as both lived in the Polygon
