Maxwell fist appears in Thale p256 as a member of the Executive Committee of LCS on 2.7.1795. He remained on it , scoring high in ballots from the General Committee, till he resigned on 9.9.1795. John Maxwell cheesemonger of 39 Broad St Bloomsbury was on list for receiving subscriptions and signatures 12.11.1795. He was secretary of Div 17 on 2.10.1797 and 5.2.1798. He was arrested at a meeting of the United Englishmen at the Nags Head, St John St 9.4.1799 (but not imprisoned?)
He was possibly the John Maxwell bach of St Giles in the Fields who married by license 24.5.1795 at Edmonton Sarah Lucas of Edmonton, witnesses Abraham & Ann Lucas. 39 Broad St Bloomsbury was sometimes called 39 Broad St, St Giles, and the two parishes were united for civil purposes since 1774. The first two children of John & Sarah Maxwell, John born 1796 and Ann born 1798, were registered at Dr Williams' Library, and then baptised at Edmonton in 1800 along with their third child, Sarah. The rest of their children were baptised at Edmonton: Abraham Lucas 1802, Francis Abraham 1804, Lucas 1806, William 1807, and Sarah Mary 1810. Their mother's father Abraham Lucas was advertised as errandman to Edmonton in 1774 and 1777. John Maxwell could have been the John Maxwell Esq listed at 12 Cloak Lane Dowgate Hill in Holden's 1811 Directory. Sarah Maxwell was buried 4.5.1829 at Bunhill Fields aged 56, from Kingsland Road.
