Godwin read in 1800 sermons on infidelity delivered to Baptist meeting Cambridge by Robert Hall DNB 1764-1831 a lifelong friend of James Mackintosh, so a likely candidate for the first entry above in 1794. He was at Cambridge 1790-1805, then at Leicester till 1826 and finally in Bristol.

1794 Warwickshire Halls: 1792 Warwick poll Joseph Hall farmer of West St voted Villiers (pro-Pitt); subscribers to History & Antiquities of Stratford (list has many of Dr Parr's friends) Mrs Hall, Warwick, Mrs Hall, Alcester; Christopher Hall of Warwick PCC 1811

Edward Hall apothecary of Long Acre proposed SC! 11.1.1782 by Brand Hollis 2nded Brocklesby; 1788 secretary of Whig Club; signed declaration of Friends to Liberty of Press 1792 (as did a John Hall); will PCC 1798. Very likely the Hall sec at Debrett's 1795

Hall in Ireland 1800 (see my entry for Hall, Ireland)

Miss Hall at Mary Robinson's funeral (see my entry for Warrington)

Mrs Hall (Chiswick) 1805. Catherine nee Comyn widow of John Pearce Hall (who died 1783) wrote her will in 1793 of Chiswick but her codicil of 1806 was made at Ludlow, she died 23.9.1807 there, her will PCC 1807, so she was probably no longer in Chiswick by 1805. Mr Thomas Hall of Chiswick was an assessor of the Land Tax in Chiswick from 1795 and was listed as living there up till 1807. He was probably the Thomas Hall carpenter of Chiswick 1790 directory and possibly the Thomas Hall of Hammersmith will PCC 1820 mentioned wife Mary, brother John and dau Susanna wife of John Hayward fan light manufacturer of Camberwell

Agnes C Hall DNB 1775/6-1846 was probably the A C Hall of 1807 and the Agnes Hall of 1827 and 1834, also perhaps the two calls on mrs Hall in 1808. Her letter to Godwin dated 9.5.1799 from Jedburgh is in Bodleian Abinger c4 f111-2 and Godwins letter to her of 23.2.1798 is in Bodleian Abinger c22 f94-5 or c54 f72. She may have also been some of the later mrs Hall entries and her husband Robert Hall DNB 1763-1824 may possibly have appeared in the diary as a plain Hall entry.

James Hall at Johnson's 1807 could have been James Hall DNB 1761-1832 though Godwin might have used his title Sir if it was him. It was more likely Rev James Hall MA of Chestnut Walk, Walthamstow whose Travels in Scotland were published 1807 by Joseph Johnson, his other works Discoveries on Ice Heat & Cold 1805 2nd ed 1819, Tour through Ireland 1813 2nd Ed 1822, Cottage Poems New Ed 1820. He won silver medal SEAMC 1809 for his beanstalk substitute for hemp, and wrote an article on it for Nicholson's Journal 1811. He was probably the Rev James Hall curate of Radford Semele died at Warwick (Bury & Norwich Post 24.10.1821) who was buried at Warwick 7.10.1821 of the Butts. The copy of Cottage Poems in the Bodleian has a manuscript dedication, partly cut away, to Dr Parr of Hatton (Samuel Parr DNB 1747-1825) from the author. The title page described the author as curate of Rowington and Baddesley Clinton, Warwickshire, and Chaplain to the Earl of Caithness, and the book was dedicated to Lady Harriet Ferrers of Baddesley, At the end of the pamphlet were listed twelve of his publications. I could not find him in Alum Ox or Cant or Dublin. He was perhaps also the Hall at Parr's in 1794

Hall (Minories) 1808 from Holdens 1811 there were two Halls with an address in the Minories. John Hall of 6 Circus St Minories and Woodford Essex who was Consul for Hanover in London and Secretary of the St Katherine's Dock Company, knighted 1831 and died 21.1.1861 at Lansdowne Crescent, Kensington-park / Samuel Sanderson Hall of 10 Vine St Minories ship broker who married 11.3.1811 Petronella Alexandrina de Bie and died 1867

John Hall of Dartford, glass gunpowder manufacturer will PCC 1836 engineer (and will PCC 1850 probably his son), selling mills at Rickmansworth, Herts (Morning Post 22.5.1807), from 1819 rented the King's mills at Feversham at £360 a year, by 1837 Messrs Hall of Dartford were running steam ship Wilberforce from London to Hull in 18 hours with an engine they had manufactured on a new principle of converting salt water to fresh before use in the engine

Sidney Hall DNB 1788/9-1831will PCC 1831 map engraver and perhaps his wife Selina (as S Hall or mrs Hall) who continued his work after his death. (There was also a Sidney Hall tailor 7 William St Spa Fields Sun Fire 1826 and a Sidney A Hall 11 Queen St Lower Islington stock & garter maker Sun Fire 1833)

Basil Hall DNB 1788-1844

Samuel Carter Hall DNB 1800-1889 and his wife Anna Maria Hall DNB 1800-1881should be considered for some of the later Hall entries. Also Charles Hall DNB 1745?-1825? / Chambers Hall DNB 1786-1855 / Benjamin Hall DNB 1802-1867 and maybe some others in DNB
