Charlotte Mercier buried St Leonards Shoreditch 1826 age 45. She may also have been some of the C Mercier entries (see Mercier, Charles). C M on 20.11.1801 seems likely to have been her, because her sister Louisa was Holcroft's wife. The 23.10.1812 invitée entry suggests that C M was female. C M was possibly Charlotte Mercier, but I would welcome any other suggestions or any hint as to what her relationship with the Godwins was. During the time the Godwins saw C M regularly (28.9.1812 to 17.12.1812), Charlotte's sister Louisa (now Kenney) came to Godwin's three times and Godwin ate at Kenney's three times, suggesting the sisters were avoiding each other (or that C M was not Charlotte Mercier). I suspect C M was a mistress or courtesan, because Curran talked of her with Godwin, and because she invited Godwin to hers with Richard Sharp DNB 1759-1835 and John Whishaw (qv), and Godwin didn't go.
