William Fox DNB 1736-1826. The following may clarify some of the questions about his early life mentioned in DNB article. His brother Samuel Fox will PCC 1789 of Abingdon, mentioned wife Sarah, brother William's children Jonathan, William, Sarah, Mary & Susannah, also mentioned brothers Edward & John and sisters Sarah Clark and Mary Hook. His death noted in Jackson's Oxford Journal 1789 as Samuel Fox of Abingdon, formerly mercer of Oxford. He was mentioned in ads in JOJ as a mercer in Oxford from 1757 and William Fox was mentioned as a mercer in Oxford in 1762. In JOJ 1769 shop in Cornmarket Oxford to let, occ. William Fox, apply to Samuel Fox, mercer. Samuel Fox of St Martin's Oxford = St Peter le Bailey, Oxford 1755 Sarah Banbury, Mary Fox = St Martin's Oxford 1770 Charles Hooke widower of Fairford, Glos. William Fox = St Leonard Colchester 19.2.1761 Mary dau of Jonathan Tabor, their children Jonathan and Sarah were baptised in dissenting Chapel Colchester in 1762 and 1764 their father named as William Fox mercer of Oxford. William Fox was presented by Rev Thomas Moore of Dukes Place to become free of the Drapers Company of London by redemption on 24.11.1767 (freedom 12.1.1768 linnen draper). His children Mary & William were baptised at his house in Leadenhall St in 1768 and 1770 (records of Postern & Founders Hall Independent Chapel). William Fox linen draper was in directories at 148 Leadenhall St from 1768 to 1776, and at 136 Cheapside from 1776 to 1790 (1774-7 with partner Parson, and from 1788 as William Fox & Co). Samuel Harris bach of St Ethelburga son of John Harris (will PCC 1801) mayor of Bristol 1791 married William Fox's daughter Sarah sp otp by lic at Islington 17.4.1792 wits William Fox. Mary Fox, Susanna Fox, Sarah Harris (see World 19.4.1792). According to Ancestry user-submitted tree Samuel & Sarah Harris emigrated to USA and died in Indiana.
