He married at St Stephen Coleman St 18.10.1768 Mary Shippey of Chigwell, Essex by lic wits Thomas Bentley, Mary Lilly. 1771 William Hodgson of Coleman St governor of General Dispensary for Relief of Poor, Aldersgate St. SunFire William Hodgson 17 Coleman St merchant. Gazetteer 16.12.1777 on committee for relief of American prisoners (with many other later members of SCI like Benjamin Vaughan, James Pearson, Edward Bridgen, Frederick Bull, John Sawbridge, Thomas Day). Morning Herald 24.2.1784 his letter to Lord Grantham about fees for ships' passes to USA. He died 20.10.1784 buried 23.10.1784 St bartholomew the Great, London. His will PCC 27.10.1784 dated9.9.1784 left all to his wife Mary. Morning Post 6.11.1784 sale of leasehold premises 17 Coleman St by order of executrix. She died 6.11.1837 at Chigwell her will PCC 1837 mentioned her late father Philip Shippey and his wife Mary, and her nine children by William Hodgson 1) William died 1796 unmarried at St Vincent 2) Benjamin Aislabee, wife Ann 3) Mary wife of John Wilkins 4) John 5) Harriet 6) Charles died 1824 at sea in East Indies 7) Emma wife of Edward Snart 8) Christopher 9) Henry died 1822 Madras. William Hodgson was possibly an active freemason, there was certainly one of that name but address not given. He may also have been the William Hodgson, witness in the case of Christopher Atkinson (History of Parliament c.1738-1819) who inspected his books and found them well kept.
