SOCIETY FOR CONSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION: Dr Meredith of Wrexham proposed member 23.6.1786 by Edward Griffith 2nded John Lodge Batley

Thomas Meredith 2nd son of Thomas of Pentrebychan Denbighshie, matric Jesus College Oxford 17.3.1778 age 17. B Med 1785. His father had married at St Nicholas, Liverpool on 18.2.1757 Margaret Newton of Heathly, Lancs. Thomas Meredith Fellow of Society of Antiquaries 12.5.1791. Thomas Meredith of Wrexham MB Fellow of Royal Society subscr 1793 to Edward Jones' Index to Records &c. His sister Margaretta married at Pontesbury, Shropshire on 12.10.1796 Joseph Warter. Dr Meerdith took possession of the Pentrebychan estate worth £1000 a year on the death of his older brother Richard in 1800. Nat Arch IR 26/402/145 abstract of will of Thomas Meredith, doctor of Medicine of Rhuabon, Denbighshire, proved 21.6.1802 in the court of St Asaph. Lancaster Gazette 7.9.1805 reported on a case at Shrewsbury assizes (Warter v Warter) to try the validity of Dr Meredith's will. Since 1800 he had contracted the habit of excessive drinking, was attacked with violent and frequent fits of epilepsy, his memory was at intervals totally gone, and generally impaired, he would converse with imaginary persons and even witrh persons long dead, he'd been affected in this manner for several days before executing his will, but having had some refreshing sleep he appeared cool and sensible when he executed the will, and afterwards dined downstairs with several friends, and discovered no symptoms of delirium.
