SOCIETY FOR CONSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION: Thomas Pellatt of Grays Inn proposed member by Stewart Kyd 15.3.1793 2nded John Horne Tooke
His grandfather Apsley Pellatt was born 15.10.1699 bapt 23.10.1699 at All Saints Lewes, Sussex son of William & Grace, was apprenticed 1715 to Francis Goater apothecary of Chichester, married 30.9.1731 at St Martin i t Fields Mary Sheibell, their son Apsley was bapt 17.3.1735 at St Martin i t Fields, and his will PCC 26.3.1740 dated 11.3.1740 apothecary mentioned freholds in Sussex and was proved by his widow Mary. Their son Apsley was apprenticed on12.7.1750 to William Bliss of the Ironmongers Co premium £80 and married on 14.7.1759 at St James Clerkenwell Sarah dau of Thomas Meriton, ironmonger of Bermondsey (his will PCC 1765). Apsley Pellatt traded as an ironmonger at 13 St John St Clerkenwell from at least 1772 until1798 and was treasurer of the Finsbury Dispensary. Their son Apsley was apprenticed 15.9.1778 premium £150 to Samuel Peacock glassman of the Pewterers Co and brother of Thomas Peacock (QV*). Their son Thomas was articled 20.7.1780 to William Leeson attorney of Staple Inn, and was admitted to the Ironmongers Co by patrimony 30.7.1789. He was in the Law List 1790 as an attorney at his father's address when he also subscribed to The Citizen by Mrs Gomersall of Leeds. By 1791 he was at Grays Inn Square (or at Messrs Rhodes & Co 13 St James Walk, Clerkenwell). He married by lic at St James Clerkenwell 13.3.1795 Elizabeth Meriton sp, presumably his cousin, dau of Henry Meriton one of the witnesses. Their sons Thomas born 1796, Henry born 1797, Apsley Meriton born 1799 and John born 1800 were baptised at Fetter Lane Independent Chapel. In 1795 he was at 21 Gt James St, Bedford Row and in 1798 at 4 Brick Court, Middle Temple. His father Apsley retired from business (Times 25.5.1798) but his wife died on 16.12.1798 and he only survived her four days. His will PCC 5.1.1799 dated 9.3.1798 mentioned his sons Mill, Apsley and Thomas. Morn Chron 10.8.1803 Thomas Pellatt was clerk to Ironmongers Co. Morn Chron 29.5.1811 he was on committee of Protestant Dissenters & Friends to Religious Liberty. Morn Chron 27.5.1812 he subscribed 10gns for relief of poor and was on that committee 3.6.1812. Morn Post 31.3.1813 he was on committee for Civilising the Indians. Morn Post 17.12.1817 he had been gratuitous secretary of London Female Penitentiary, New Rd Pentonville since 1807. He was buried at Clapham 29.12.1829 age 63. His brother Apsley was buried 21.1.1826 age 63, and his nephew Apsley junior had published "Memoirs of Glass Manufactures" (Morn Post 14.1.1822).
