He often sang at Anacreontic Society with Dignum who was at Wrights with him in 1793. He was often anti-radical and sang at Hood's election dinners but according to Pryse Lockhart Gordon's Personal Memoirs (vol 1 p249, 262 vol 2 p 372-4) he did this only for money and was a 'double-tailed rat'. Hewerdine sent a puff to Isaac Swainson in 1789 praising his "Velno's" vegetable syrup. Wm H was also listed in 1789 as a Governor of the Western Dispensary which was in his street, Charles St, Westminster. He acted one night in 1788 and got such bad reviews that he only appeared once more on London stage some years later.
