The landlord of the Kings Arms in Arundel Street was a William Thomas,  (rate books 1776)  He went bankrupt (Oxford Journal 1.5.1779). The ratebooks for 1778 named George Hall there. In the trials of the Gordon rioters in 1780 a Mr Hill of the Kings Arms, Arundel Street was a witness.. Simon Place was there in the rate books of 1782 and 1785. In that year Thomas Thomas was in the ratebooks further down Arundel Street (presumably the Watermans Arms as Place stated). In 1789 to 1795…

Willis, William

Place cleaned breeches of Willis, son of painter & glazier in Essex Street, Willis junior was in partnership with landlord of Crown & Anchor. Place found a half guinea in his pocket, borrowed it overnight and returned it telling the whole truth. Willis never employed him again.
