Lewis Cs could have been an abbreviation for a surname ending in s like Chalmers but was more likely a plural. Lewis Goldsmith who had met Godwin in 1801 had left for France in December (see Goldsmith) and the C is clearly not a G, no other obvious candidates among people mentioned in the diary before or after.
