Alfred Nicolson dines 19.6.1803

This may well have been the 15 year old son of Francis Nicholson 1753-1844 painter who was living in Somers Town by 1803. Alfred's dates were 1788-1833, he served in the Navy before working as a painter. See Nicholson, Catherine for A Nicholson entries that could have been him, though probably not. Also some plain Nicholson entries could have been his father Francis rather than Godwin's close friend William Nicholson, but I haven't noticed any that look like they might have been. I don't think there was any Alfred in William Nicholson's family.

Quite likely Robert Nixon 1759-1837, curate of Foots Cray 1784-1804 in John Colley Nixon DNB pre 1759-1818. He exhibited at Royal Academy and was said to have talent-spotted Joseph Mallord William Turner DNB 1775-1861. He died at Kenmure Castle, New Galloway

The will PCC 1796 of James Norris gent of Norwich mentioned his friend Elias Norgate. His burial was at Norwich on 19.7.1796 two days before this entry, His brother the Rev William Norris 1727-98 lived at Wood Norton, close to Dalling where Godwin's family lived, With his wife Susanna (nee Chad, married at Wells , Norfolk 6.6.1758) he had at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. Probably not the blind and ageing politician Lord North but either his son Francis DNB 1761-1817 who wrote a play 'The Kentish Baron' 1791 or his son Frederick DNB 1766-1827 who was a Fellow of Royal Society and joined Greek Orthodox church, so very much up Paradise's street but perhaps abroad at this time

Richard Toulmin North baptised 13.3.1782 Kirby Lonsdale, Lancs son of Miles & Susanna North. His mother married Miles North in 1778 and married 2ndly in 1799 the older brother of Frederick Reynolds DNB 1764-1841 (see Reynolds, Richard). He inherited the Manor of Tunstal and became a JP for West Yorks and a Major in the militia. A sad, or amusing account of his later "lunacy" can be found in the Morning Post of 27.2.1847. This must mean Northcote junior but there is nothing in James Northcote DNB 1736-1831 to suggest who that could have been. Northcote was unmarried with one older brother and one sister. He may have had an illegitimate son or a nephew who died before he did, (otherwise they would probably have been mentioned in his will).
