Scot, Charles

11.3.1791 Scott MD at Miss Williams'. The only London MD named Scott at this time seems to have been Dr Charles Scot of 67 Queen Anne St East who died March 1794 (newspapers) age 35 son of late Dr John Scot of 30 Titchfield St. (Boyles 1792 Court Guide also lists a Dr Scott at 22 St Alban St)

at Brand Hollis' 14.5.1791 "Scott a believer in spiritual intercourses lends Paine £40 to aid the publication of his pamphlet, suspended for want of money. (Lewis)" I hope one day to find out who this Scott was - Ed Pope

These four entries have been coded on GD website to a generic Scott person record but with no attempt to guess who they were. Up to 1807 Godwin often noted Thomas Hobbes Scott and his family, either as Scotts at Tooke's, or distinguished from each other by an initial. After 1807 there were no Scotts in the diary for some years till he met Sir Walter Scott in 1816. The four entries above could…

The above were the four times Godwin noted Mrs Scott at Tooke's but there were plenty of other occasions there when he noted Scotts, 2 Scotts, 5 Scotts &c and these have mostly been coded in GD website to Thomas Hobbes Scott who was sometimes clearly noted as Hobbes Scott or…

Scribe, Achille

Was in fact Dyde and Scribe, haberdashers and furriers, warehousemen at 89 Pall Mall. National Archives TS11/824 and KB33/7/3/(ii) deal with the case of Robert Dyde and Achille Scribe for attempting to export goods to France. A newspaper report of 25.5.1819 said "died lately at Montreal, respectably established, Mr Robert Dyde late of Pall Mall"
