The first entry above is transcribed Da[-rn?]al in GD website. The original is hard to read but in the light of the three Derville entries following it was probably Darval. Robert Dupont Derval was a Major in the York Rangers from 26.12.1796 until 1797. He was named as a defendant in a Chancery cause in 1807 to 1809 Timothy Stansfeld (will PCC 1829 obit of Feld House, New Cross in 75th year) vs Augustus Bultler Danvers (qv), Robert D'Ervall (abroad), John King, Jane Countess of…

Destenonville

26.11.1792 Destenonville at Holcroft's.

French National Legislative Assembly 8.3.1792 a French officer Destinanville had been expelled from Pondicherry and was asking the assembly's support to be reinstated. 20.2.1794 the Military Commission of Angers condemned to death Desmarez called Destinanville, ex General of the troops of the Republic in La Vendee. These may both be the same person as the name is rare in France. It adds to the stream of foreign officers calling on Holcroft

Dibbin, Henry

Henry Dibbin was baptised on 8.11.1772 son of Francis and Mary Dibbin at Thatcham, Berks. They kept an inn on the Bath Road. Francis Dibbin died in 1777 when Henry was young, and his mother married Edward Fromont. Fromont ran extensive coaching services from London to Bristol and Exeter and his stepson kept the inns at the London end. After his mother died in 1803, Dibbin defended a Chancery suit against his stepfather Fromont (Nat Arch C13/102/39 & C13/89/36). For his marriage see Jones, Louisa.

Dibdin, Charles

CHARLES DIBDIN (1745-1814)
CURRENT TEXT "References to an earlier marriage have not been substantiated, and the relationship with Harriet Pitt was probably considered irregular, as she already had a child out of wedlock before she met Dibdin. At about this time Dibdin transferred his affection to Anne Maria Wylde (1757-1835), of Portsea, possibly a relative of the prompter James Wild, and quickly married her. They had at least one daughter, Anne (bap.1776)."

Dickins

Dickins calls, call on Dickins 6.2.1805 / 9.2.1805 call on Dickins adv Eustace / 17.3.1805 Dickins calls / 20.7.1805 seek Dickins (pro Arnot)

Because John Arnot's siter Lilias married Asbury Dickins of Philadelphia on 31.10.1803 and the 1805 entry was "pro Arnot" this Dickins was probably him. He took advantage of the relief of insolvent debtors in the Kings Bench Prison in 1806 (Morning Post 28.7.1806) so that was maybe where he was when Godwin sought him in 1805. In Holdens 1811 he was listed as the Chancellor to the American Consul, and in Cobbett's Register of 30.11.1833 William…

Dickinson

Dickinson 21.10.1802 at Nicholson's / 26.8.1804 Dickenson at Horne Tooke's

When William Nicholson was in Debtor's Prison in 1807 (see Nat Arch PRIS1/23) the principal creditor was a Robert Dickinson, for £996, next was George Nicholas Ll.D. headmaster of Ealing school (will PCC 1829) for £324 at first and a further £634 added later, and the other 20 or so creditors for less than £1000 between them, including James Sadler jr for £30. It's possible that some creditors added their claims at the request of the debtor. Godwin had supped at Nicholson's with Sadler on 14.1.1800. There were…

Bankrupts Peter Didier & William Tebbett of St James-st booksellers, January 27 at eleven at Guildhall. They specialised in children's games and children's books in English, French & Italian.
