John Philpot Curran (DNB 1750-1817) seems to have had a number of mistresses in his life, see my entries for Hughes, Maria, for Dixon (mrs Dixon) and for W Place (mrs Fitzgerald). Godwin sometimes used initials for convenience, but particularly for children, and also for women, perhaps especially when mentioning their name was a socially delicate matter. Perhaps Francis Higgins DNB 1746-1802 owner of Freeman's Journal, Dublin & informer, or William Higgins DNB 1763?-1825 chemist, in Dublin from 1791.
