Cole, William

Cole 22.9.1793

William Cole married Sophia Holcroft in 1794. Of the dates coded to him in the diary, 30.1.1796 and 14.2.1796 should be removed as Mrs Cole only; 10.10.1801 "Coles sups" is ambiguous and 15.3.1830 Coles (at Kenney's) may refer to him if he was by then divorced and with a new wife or some of his children; or he may have died by then.

Dyson, Abraham

Submitted by edpope on

Abraham Dyson (see his brother Dyson,George) was buried at St Leonards Shoreditch on 8.4.1818 age 43 of Hoxton New Town, suggesting he was born in 1775, thus before his parents' marriage, which accords with the Treasury's confiscation of his effects (value £850) as a "bachelor and a bastard" (Nat Arch PROB31/1145/344). He appeared in Godwin's diary on 13.7.1788, 5.9.1791, 28.2.1792(not coded in GD website0, 1.3.1792, 20.3.1792 (not coded in GD website), 22.3.1792, 9.5.1792, 30.8.1792 (not coded in GD website), 1.10.1792, 7.12.1792, and 6.8.1793.

Dyson, George

Submitted by edpope on

George Dyson was baptised on 18.4.1773 aged 25 days old at Christ Church Spitalfields son of Abraham, warehouseman of Barr St, by Margaret. Oddly both he and his younger brother Abraham were born before Abraham Dyson, bachelor of St Andrew Holborn married Margret Roberts, spinster of the Old Artillery Ground by license at Christ Church Spitalfields on 14.9.1777. Both his parents were already in their mid-thirties when George was born. The Dysons were noncomformists by religion.

Dibbin, Henry

Submitted by edpope on

Henry Dibbin was baptised on 8.11.1772 son of Francis and Mary Dibbin at Thatcham, Berks. They kept an inn on the Bath Road. Francis Dibbin died in 1777 when Henry was young, and his mother married Edward Fromont. Fromont ran extensive coaching services from London to Bristol and Exeter and his stepson kept the inns at the London end. After his mother died in 1803, Dibbin defended a Chancery suit against his stepfather Fromont (Nat Arch C13/102/39 & C13/89/36). For his marriage see Jones, Louisa.
