Nicholson (P H)

Submitted by edpope on

write to Nicholson (P H) 4.8.1804

Coded in GD website to William Nicholson DNB 1753-1815 which may well be correct but in that case what did P H stand for? Godwin may have used PH to distinguish this person from his usual Nicholson. I wondered if P H stood for Political Herald this could have been a former colleague of Godwin's

Joyce, Mrs T C

Submitted by edpope on

mrs TCJoyce 19.7.1804 at Joyce's

This may have been Mary Joyce wife of Jeremiah Joyce's brother Joshua, who was a tallow chandler (TC?). The brothers married sisters, so she had a double reason for being at Joyce's. See Joyce, Jeremiah and Joyce, Joshua on this website

Benjer, Miss

Submitted by edpope on

miss Benjer 13.7.1804 at Joyce's / 19.12.1811 miss Benjer at Coleridge's lecture

These two entries should be added in the GD website to the person record of Elizabeth Ogilvy Benjer DNB 1775-1827. The Benjers of the 16.6.1803 entry, which is coded to her, perhaps also included her mother Mary. The first entry on GD website was to Benjers on 16.6.1803 and the plural probably included her mother Elizabeth Benger widow who outlived her and proved her will on 14.3.1827 as universal legatee
