Samuel Parr had vanished from Hatton to give space to his newly Gretna Green married daughter Sarah and his son-in-law John Wynne. Wynne's younger brother Julius was 15 years old at the time. See Godwin's letter Abinger c40 f182-3. The 1797 entry should also be coded to Sarah Parr's person record on GD website

George in Tree

an inn 10 miles north of Warwick, still there in what is now Berkswell, Balsall Common. Strange name, maybe it was changed from Charles in Tree, none of the King George's having had to hide in a tree like Charles II did

Robert Bage DNB 1728?-1801. His workplace was at Elford. The GD website editors were clearly aware of this person but must have forgotten to give him a person record. See Godwin's letter Abinger c40 f180-1

GD website has transcribed this wrongly as Funnel. It is covered in Godwin's letter to Mary Wollstonecraft (Abinger c49 f178-9) and in the notes to that letter in Pamela Clemit's edition of Godwin's letters Vol 1. Harecastle Tunnel

On GD website this entry is event tagged but the link is empty. This visit is covered in Godwin's letter to Mary Wollstonecraft (Abinger c40 f74-5). The "company of strollers" was based at Newcastle-under-Lyme. Catharine was David Garrick's adaptation of William Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew

Sarah Wedgwood 1734-1815 widow of Josiah Wedgwood DNB d.1795. The S Wedgwood of 1813 was perhaps more likely her unmarried daughter Sarah (see Wedgwood, Catherine). Mrs Robert Darwin was Mrs Wedgwood's daughter so the three sisters and their mother were probably at dinner
