Alexander Dirom DNB 1757-1830. (World 15.8.1793) "lately at Edinburgh Major Dirom of Muiresk married Miss Pasley of Mount Annan"



 

Blair

26.6.1792 Blair talked of with Jardine, 14.12.1792 Blair calls on Godwin, 3.1.1793 Godwin calls on Blair. In Godwin's 1796 list at end of 1792 and in 1794 version.

Most likely Hugh Blair DNB 1718-1800 though I have no evidence he was in London at this time; or less likely William Blair DNB 1766-1822 surgeon and methodist. It needs to be someone famous enough to talk about and include in the 1796 list. The later Blair from 16.1.1794 at Richard Johnson's (see Blair, Alexander) was a relative of the host and unlikely to have been this Blair

 

Marshall, James

23.8.1792 Mr Marshal's was possibly James Marshall, the GD website editors have left it uncoded presumably because this is the only time out of nearly 1200 entries Godwin referred to him this way. Perhaps it meant his father, if he had one living

Richard Stubbs, son of Robert of Lorton Cumberland gent, born about 1746, Wadham College, DD 1783 (Alum Ox); died 26.12.1810 in London, Rev Dr Stubbs of Fryerning, Essex (Ipswich Journal 5.1.1811); will PCC 1811 mentioned his wife Pleasant



 

D'Alton

miss D'Alton 20.8.1792 at Brand Hollis.

There were three Irish generals named D'Alton in the Austrian service; this may well be Frances, daughter of late General Count D'Alton who married Sir Richard Steele in March 1793 and died Frances Mary Steele 17.7.1857 at Weymouth (newspapers). Mary D'Alton widow of Count Edward D'Alton died 12.8.1815 her will PCC 1815 mentions her eldest son Peter D'Alton, 2nd son Christopher Albert Thomas Francis D'Alton, daughter Ann Jackson, brother Charles McCarthy, late brother John McCarthy Esq of Springham Tipperary



 

Preston, Richard

Mr Preston of Jerico 20.8.1792 at Brand Hollis'.

A near neighbour of Hollis in Essex, the will (PCC 1802) of Richard Preston of Jericho House, Blackmore Essex specified his epitaph "formerly eminent mercer behind St Clements London began with £13 7s 6d" and an executor was his friend Dr William Garthshore of St Martins Lane. Also mentioned brother Capt Achilles Preston, Mrs Dubourgh his late sister's mantua maker, nephew Richard Preston Prichard, and grandnephew Christopher son of John Preston formerly of St Clements mercer
