HCR diary 25.12.1823 at Sam: Kent's "the whole Jupp family - Mr J: rather a low joker, but still a sensible man - very religious but yet remarkably coarse in his conversation - with a tendency to freedom of talk on sexual matters before his own sons. Three of them - two forward striplings - one a young architect - also 4 daughters - a fine family on the whole - Mrs J: was sighing all the day - it amounted nearly to groaning - for the loss of a favourite daughter two years ago!!"....."The whole Jupp family tremendous Irvingites"

letter 10.1.1830 Mrs Aders in London to HCR in Italy "Sir T Lawrence is no more - he died (I think the servant said) on Thursday night at 9 o'clock, I went there yesterday with my friend Miss James, and could not resist the servant's offer to see his remains"

HCR diary 9.8.1832 "I took Mr hall to see Mrs Aders' pictures - she was there and thus the whole morning - for we went to the Athenaeum - was spent with him. Mrs A: says he has a good taste and knowledge of paintings, tho' his taste is not altogether for the old masters"

                  24.4.1839 "to Christie's to inspect the pictures. There I met with hall who gives a favourable opinion of them"

HCR diary 1.7.1821 "dined at Sieveking's met Dr Jenckel physician 2 New London St, Crutched Friars, translates English poems into German - a little dogmatical and a little mystical - I might say he is very much so"

                13.11.1821 "I called on Dr Jenckel 37 Gracechurch St. I sat a couple of hours with him - we talked about English poetry - he is an able man - his wife a respectable woman - but I fear they have not the means of continuing here"
