23.10.1807 call on Glaister

The onl instance of this name in Godwin's diary. But a rare name so probably Samuel Glaister exchange broker of Threadneedle-st (1749-1815 a Quaker) his will PCC 31.3.1815

Satchel

10.10.1807 Satchel calls

The only time this name appeared in Godwin's diary. Perhaps John Satchell timber merchant of Limehouse and SCI member (see my entry for him on this website). The only other Satchells in Holdens 1811 directory were Richard Satchell, brewer (SunFire 1806 at 6 Winsley-st partner William Rowell) and Francis Satchell farmer at Palmer's-green

Mul

4.10.1807 Mul. sups

This should be added to the person record on GD website for William Mulready (DNB 1786-1863) who frequently supped with Godwin

E T

Submitted by edpope on

2.10.1807 E T en bas

The only other uses of E T in Godwin's diary were twice in 1830 where it was clearly associated with R T which certainly meant Richard Taylor (DNB 1781-1858). R, E & A Taylor had breakfasted with Godwin on 26.9.1807, six days before the above entry. So I suggest this was Edward Taylor (DNB 1784-1863), Richard Taylor's younger brother, who has a person record on the GD website

Gibbs

Submitted by edpope on

23.9.1807 call on Gibbs

One of only two Gibbs entries in Godwin's diary, the other being Rev Gibbs, spouter, he shared a coach with in 1812.

Possibly Vicary Gibbs (DNB 1751-1820) but Gibbs was a common name and too many possibles to list

Fargues

Submitted by edpope on

17.9.1807 Fargues calls / 8.10.1807 again / 29.10.1807 call on Fargues

Francis Peter Fargues copperplate printer & engraver 48 Berwick-st (St James Westmr P O directory 1810). Age 26 of St Botolph Aldgate he took a license to marry Sarah Downing 5.6.1782. Bankrupt 1824. A Francis Peter Fargues was still on electoral register at Berwick-st in 1842, he was dead by 1853 (Standard 14.1.1853)

Gooch

Submitted by edpope on

11.9.1807 dine at Johnson's w. Gooch /  2.2.1820 seek Gooch

The only two Gooch entries in Godwin's diary, and 12 years between them, so they may not have referred to the same person, Possibles:

Robert Gooch (DNB 1784-1830) had graduated MD from Edinburgh in June 1807 and then worked for a time under Astley Cooper in London. He could have also been the 1820 entry.

Perks

Buchan

Submitted by edpope on

6.9.1807 Carlisles, Buchan & John Flather call / 16.11.1807 Carlisle, Buchan & mrs Topping call / 18.11.1807 Jo(seph) G(odwin) calls, & Buchan (not seen)

The GD website has a person record for Dr Alexander Peter Buchan (DNB 1764-1824), but the above entries are not coded to him. Although calls on the same day could have been quite separate, the fact that Buchan followed Carlisle on the first two entries above suggests that this was Dr Alexander Buchan, a known associate of Anthony Carlisle, and so presumably was the third entry, only two days later.
