mrs P Smith 4.3.1806 at Rowan's
Godwin didn't note Peter Smith in his diary till 17.6.1810 (see Smith, James) so this person was probably not his wife. At present I have no other idea who she was

GODWIN DIARY: M calls from Sharp & Smith 4.3.1808 / 13.4.1808 write to Smith; M(arshall) from Shp
Both Smith entries above have been coded in GD website to the generic Smith. They should clearly be coded to William Smith DNB 1756-1835. From February to April 1808 James Marshall was helping Godwin get a subscription from William Smith and Richard Sharp DNB 1759-1835 who each provided £50. The Shp in the second entry was clearly Sharp and should be coded to him

perhaps William Adams Smith second son of William Smith DNB 1756-1835, bapt 1789 Clapham. From newspapers I gleaned he was a lifelong supporter of "Reform" and active in the RSPCA. He spent some years in Naples circa 1860. One genealogical website said he was Lt RN in 1813 and died 1870. There were 4 other brothers, Benjamin 1783-1860 who became MP for Sudbury in 1835, Frederick 1798-1882 Indian army, Samuel 1795-1880 a barrister & Octavius 1796-1871Trin Coll camb, Distillery, model estate in Scotland…

Given that Mary Wollstonecraft's sisters were at Snagg's in 1804 it seems likely that the call of 1797 related to Mary W's recent death. This was possibly Thomas Snagg (stage name Wilks) actor (Highfill, Burnim & Langhans 1748-1812) and his wife Sarah nee Lilly married 1782 died by 1806 when Snagg married again in Dublin. Probably George Sothren baptised Norwich 1762 son of George & Hannah (nee Raimes, married Norwich 1754). His father, probably a tailor of Norwich who voted there in 1768 and 1780, married Godwin's cousin Hannah at Gaiswick (i.e.Guestwick) 15.9.…
